Our Veterinary Services
At River Grove Animal Hospital in Mississauga, we offer a wide range of veterinary services focused on preventive care, diagnostics, and treatment—all delivered with compassion, communication, and attention to your pet’s comfort.
Dental
Bad breath from your pet isn’t just unpleasant—it signals potential dental disease that affects three out of four pets by age three. Regular dental cleanings prevent painful infections and protect vital organs like the heart and liver from bacterial damage. River Grove Animal Hospital makes oral care stress-free with gentle techniques that keep pets comfortable throughout the procedure.
First, we check your pet’s mouth, gums, and surrounding areas for signs of trouble like loose teeth or swelling. Next comes the deep cleaning, where we scrape away built-up tartar both above and below the gum line. Once finished, our skilled Oakville vet staff shows you simple home care methods using special toothbrushes and dental treats that make daily maintenance easy.
Surgery
When your pet needs surgical care, timing and expertise make all the difference in their recovery. From routine spaying and neutering to complex tumor removals, we handle each case with precision and compassion. Our advanced anesthesia methods keep your pet comfortable. Our skilled team does everything from emergency repairs to planned bone surgeries.
Pre-surgical blood work helps us confirm your pet is ready for the procedure and identify any hidden health concerns. During surgery, we watch vital signs all the time. We use proven methods that reduce pain and help with healing. River Grove Animal Hospital’s Oakville vet team gives clear recovery instructions. They stay available for questions until your pet is back to normal.
Medical Cases
Sudden vomiting, difficulty breathing, or unexplained skin problems can leave pet owners worried and unsure of the next steps. River Grove Animal Hospital handles complex medical cases. We use advanced tests like blood work, ultrasounds, and urine tests to find causes. We handle seizures, digestive issues, and breathing emergencies with the same careful approach.
Every symptom tells a story, and our detailed examination process reveals what’s really affecting your pet’s health. Advanced imaging helps us see inside problems. Lab tests give key information about organ function and infection. Our experienced Oakville vet team uses diagnostic tools and careful observation. They create treatment plans that address immediate and long-term medical issues.
Emergency Cases
Pet emergencies don’t wait for convenient hours, which is why we’ve established partnerships with seven specialized emergency clinics across the Greater Toronto Area. These trusted facilities handle critical cases when your pet needs quick care outside our regular hours. Our network includes places like Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital. This keeps help close no matter when disaster happens.
When urgent situations arise, quick access to professional care can save your pet’s life and prevent lasting complications. We work closely with emergency partners. This ensures smooth care transitions for your furry family member. River Grove Animal Hospital’s Oakville vet team is always ready. You are never alone during emergencies that need quick action and expert care.
Vaccines
Most pet diseases that once killed thousands of animals are now completely preventable through simple shots given during routine visits. Rabies, distemper, and parvovirus don’t have to threaten your dog or cat when their immune system knows how to fight back. We determine which vaccines your pet needs based on their age, health status, and daily activities.
Your pet receives only necessary vaccines—never extra ones that don’t match their risk factors or lifestyle. Side effects are rare, though we watch for any unusual reactions like swelling or mild fever after each appointment. River Grove Animal Hospital’s skilled Oakville vet team has decades of vaccine experience. Your pet gets protection without extra risks or pain.
Pet Wellness
Annual checkups catch problems before they become expensive emergencies or cause your pet unnecessary pain. During each visit, we examine everything from mobility and appetite changes to lumps you might have missed at home. Young puppies need early health records. Senior pets need closer checks for age issues like vision loss or stiff joints.
Physical exams reveal what’s happening inside your pet’s body through careful observation and hands-on assessment. We update vaccinations, test for parasites, and discuss any behavioral changes you’ve noticed since the last appointment. River Grove Animal Hospital’s Oakville vet team also does microchipping and dental care during wellness visits. This makes pet care easy and complete for busy families.

FAQs
How often should I bring my pet for wellness exams?
Most adult pets benefit from comprehensive wellness exams twice yearly, while puppies and kittens need more frequent puppy and kitten visits during their first year of life. Senior pets over seven years old should receive wellness testing every six months to catch age-related medical conditions early. Regular preventive care helps your Oakville vet find problems before they get serious. This saves you money and keeps your pet healthier longer.
What should I expect during my pet's first visit?
Your pet’s first full wellness exam includes a physical check, a talk about their medical history, and vaccine advice based on their age and lifestyle. We will create a treatment plan for your pet’s needs. We also teach you about proper nutrition, parasite prevention, and home care. Our dedicated Oakville vet staff will take time to answer all your questions and help you feel confident about your pet’s healthcare moving forward.
Do you offer same-day appointments for sick pets?
We reserve time slots each day for urgent appointments and sick pet visits, though we recommend calling as early as possible for same-day veterinary care. Our experienced Oakville vet team can assess your pet’s condition over the phone and determine the appropriate level of care needed. For after-hours emergencies, we work with several emergency veterinary hospitals nearby. This ensures your pets get quick care when needed.
What makes your dental care different from other practices?
Our dental care goes beyond simple teeth cleaning to include comprehensive examinations of your pet’s head, neck, face, ears, and mouth during each procedure. We use modern equipment and methods to treat everything from routine tartar removal to complex gum disease. We also teach clients about dental care at home. We suggest pet-safe products to keep your pet’s mouth healthy between cleanings.
How do you help anxious pets feel more comfortable?
We know vet visits can stress some animals. Our caring approach takes extra time to help nervous pets get used to our clinic. Our Oakville vet staff uses gentle handling and positive reinforcement. This creates a calm experience for anxious pets. We also encourage pet owners to bring their pets favorite treats or toys to help them feel more secure during their visit to our veterinary hospital.
